Cabo Trip Report (March 29-April 5)

Day 1

After waiting close to three hours at the airport for the rest of our party to arrive from San Diego we were glad to finally be packed up in airport transfer and off to our resort. Our driver was very accommodating, as he let us stop off at Costco on the way to our resort.

Traveler's Tip: Wait to exchange your money at the airport. You'll get a better exchange rate. Carry half U.S. dollars on you because many places it's cheaper to pay in American money.

Two hours and four hundred dollars later we arrived at Terrasol Beach Resorts. The resort was very nice, sand and flowers everywhere and almost all the condos had an ocean view.

There was only one small problem. We arrived only to find out that the room we booked, Condo 212, was not available.

We booked our room through Rockstar Rentals, whom left a note for us at the front desk letting us know that we will be placing us in three different rooms with 100 bar credit. We weren't going to let this ruin our vacation so didn't make such a big deal about it, but we did ask for them to up the bar credit to $150.00 due to a $25 nightly service fee that we weren't aware of. However, I sort of somewhat had to twist Rockstar Rentals arms to have to even give me this.

The first Condo they set us up in was Condo 153. It wasn't up to par as the original Condo we picked, but it was cozy and clean and that was all we hoped for. We got very comfortable in it.

After getting settled in, the first thing to do was get into our swim suits to hit the pool. The only downside to this resort is that it's not a swimable beach. However, the pro to this is there are not crowds of people walking around and no vendors to hassle you. We still enjoyed ourselves standing on the shore and watching the waves.

We retired as the sun was starting to set to make dinner and fell asleep at 10 pm to get up early the next day.

Day 2

We got up at 8 am to get ready to go ATVing. We booked through Cabo San Lucas Tours for about $63 dollars per person. It it an off road tour for anyone who loves dirt and going fast.

We all had fun and I'm sure everyone would recommend it. You get to ride through sand dunes, up a hill and go through a small town.

And they also feed you lunch!

We took a short nap after our tour, had dinner and got ready to go out.

We walked into town. The Marina is the place to hit for everything. Our resort is less than ten minutes from the Marina, but it is at the far end of the Marina, so it's a good fifteen to twenty minute walk before you hit any of the good tourist spots.

We hit the Giggling Marlin first, which I heard was the place to watch people balance drinks on their head. I was disappointed to not see this, but they do hang people upside down and pour shots down their throat.

If you are near the Giggling Marlin at night check out the man who sits out front who creates pictures out of spray paint. We wanted to buy one, but ran out of money and time to get one.

Across the street is Cabo Wabo. We rallied on over there, but the atmosphere was for an older crowd so we went downstairs and had fiver beers and nachos for $10.00 instead.

Still craving for some dancing we headed on over to The Zoo.

Travler's Tip: Avoid buying any drinks at The Zoo. They are very expensive.

We arrived back to the Condo around 1 am.

Day 3

This is our first day with nothing planned, so half the group decided they wanted to the climb the rocks next to our resort over the Lover's Beach.

The other half went to the Marina for some shopping and food.

There was a stand on the Marina where you got to take a picture a baby cub. $20 and it goes to a fund to benefit the natural reserve the cubs come from.

Traveler's Trip: Look for Oscar on the Marina. He is usually there between the ours of 10-2. He will do a painting on a tile with his hands and put your name on it for only $12

Earlier in the day we had packed out bags to move to our next location, Condo 107. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. However, the Condo was a complete dump. It was outdated, one of the showers didn't drain, the toilets didn't flush right, half the burners didn't work and the tile from the kitchen and floors were cracked and dingy. You almost felt like you couldn't walk on the floors with your bare feet and after taking a shower you still felt dirty all over.

Later that night we went over to Melia Del Sol to check out Nikki Beach.

The party here was a little upscale and drinks were $10 each, so we decided to head back into town and ended up at the Nowhere Bar.

After getting a few cheap drinks we walked over the El Squid Roe, which was so packed there was barely any standing room.

Day 4

Of course there was more climbing, but I stayed home for the majority of the morning and afternoon because I caught a sore throat that Lance had over well over a month ago, but was still lingering in his system as a cough.

We went back into the Marina for a little more shopping in the late afternoon.

Afterwards we took a water taxi back to our resort and got ready to go out to dinner at The Trailer Park, where we heard had $10.00 lobster tail.

Traveler's Trip: Always negotiate the price of your taxi before getting in. Most people charge three, but you can get them to lower it to two. Sometimes they do charge a dock fee.

It turns out that this restaurant was recently renovated and no longer had the $10 lobster tails that we heard about, but we ate there anyway. The food was still delicious, even if it cost us an arm and a leg.

Day 5

Around 11:00 am we were picked-up for our canopy tour, which we were almost late for because we didn't know that Mexico had just changed their time. I was already nervous before getting on the bus to head there. The canopy tour requires you getting on a zip line suspended from one cliff to another and be launched across it. Eeeeekkk!!!

All in all I didn't regret going. It didn't go as fast as I thought it would and it was quite an experience, sooo I would recommend it.

Later that night we went out star gazing.

Day 6

As you can see it is getting near the end of our trip so we're getting lazy on pictures. Today was also a free day so Lance and I did a little more shopping, since I was getting sicker by the day. We went to the pharmacy to get some throat medicine and antibiotics.

Traveler's Tip: Psst...they will sell you things without a prescriptions.

Lance and I headed out the flea market after having lunch at the resort. If there is anything to try when you are in Cabo it is the mango. On Medano Beach or near the flea market you can find stands that have fresh fruit. They will put it in a bag for you and squeeze lime juice and put chilli on it. Mmmmmmm.....

We arrived back a little before sunset. We were due to move again tomorrow, but I went up to the front desk to see if the next room would be available due to the how uncomfortable we felt in Condo 107. Luckily Condo 216 was available and the let us move early.

After moving again, Phil, Nicole, Lance and I went horseback riding. I had never been before and was a little nervous. My horse kept gravitating towards trees. It was awfully hungry. It was a little scary, but nice experience nonetheless. My butt hurt the next day, but I'm sure that's normal.

Pictures will be up shortly.

Later the night we all had some night caps, got loud, walked down the beach, got yelled at and finally fell asleep like old women at midnight.

Day 7

So today we pretty much spend the day trying to buy as much souvenirs as possible. Like the ones below.

We also had a kayaking trip scheduled around 2pm. We met at Tio Sports and kayaked out to lover's beach where the famous arch is. The water was very rough that day so we didn't get to go snorkeling, but had fun kayaking across the ocean regardless. I have pictures on a water camera that I don't think I'll ever get developed.

Day 8

Last Day of our trip. :(

We woke up around 7 am, finished packing and met our airport transfer at 9am.

I came, I saw, I had fun...and got tan! Everything you could ask for in a trip to Cabo.
